Mark’s Kitchen (Takoma Park, MD)

Mark being Mark Choe, who decided that the eclectic residents of Takoma Park would be satisfied with nothing less than an Asian-American-Vegetarian restaurant. Choose from Korean Seaweed Soup, a Tofu Club Sandwich, Teriyaki on Focaccia, Banana Pancakes, or a Hot-Fudge Sundae. Vegetarians flock here to sample Mark’s healthy creations such as Honey Soybeans, Grilled Tofu, Shiitake Mushrooms, Green Beans, Mung Bean Pancake and Brown Rice, all served as a single dish in a beautiful black lacquer box. Fresh fruit, vegetables and natural fruit drinks are also big sellers. We’re not your mom, but she’d be happy if you ate healthy for once.

The Vegetable Garden (Rockville, MD)

If you’re a vegetarian, you probably already know about this place – famous for serving Chinese food without meat, oil, MSG, dairy and eggs. No garlic or onions either. Instead you find vegan and vegetarian dishes that imitate Hunan Beef and Chicken with Cashew Nuts, without the meat. You may also choose from hot pot entrees such as the Tofu Hot Pot, Curry Pond, or Eggplant Hot Pot. We also like Deep-fried Triple Delight (made with Eggplant, Black Mushroom, and Lotus Root), Stir-fried French Beans Deluxe, Moo Shi Vegetables, and Veggie-Duck with Asparagus.
