Makoto (Washington,
DC)
We think the biggest downer of coming back from vacation is trying to shake the
memory of the authentic food you’ve had while away. So make plans for Japan
because Makoto delivers great quality sushi, with a quaint Tokyo ambience. The
focus here is the quality of their ingredients and sushi – which
is why so many Japanese expats are in attendance. Darn your socks before you
arrive - as per tradition, you’ll be asked to trade your shoes for a pair
of slippers upon entering. First-timers should consider ordering the eight-course
tasting menu, which includes the freshest Asian greens, perfectly cooked Salmon,
Shrimp and Scallops, top-notch Sushi, a main entrée of either Yellowtail
or Sautéed Beef, and a fresh desert that will leave you feeling light
on your feet, yet utterly satisfied. Makoto is both popular and small, so plan
ahead. And be prepared for typically smaller Japanese portions.
Sushi-Go-Round (Washington,
DC)
This restaurant right next to the MCI (er …Verizon) Center,
and part of the swinging 7th Street corridor, does Henry Ford one
better and services up its sushi and sashimi on a conveyor belt.
Remember that famous I Love Lucy episode? Although here, if you
don’t grab it the first time; what goes around comes around.Sushi-Go-Round
has two dining areas: the conveyor belt area, and a more formal
sit-down dining area. What’s your speed? The no ordering/no
waiting section gets you very tasty and fresh sushi, hand rolls
and sashimi. If you have some more time, and a hankering for some
very fine Asian dishes, have a seat. Our sit-down menu favorites
are Coffee-Crusted Rack of Lamb and Jumbo Prawns with Mentaiko
Pasta in Chipotle Wine Sauce. Also featured is an Asian variation
on tapas - hot and cold small plates that are as unique and sophisticated
as their entrees. If you aren’t quite sure what you are hungry
for, the eclectic menu at Sushi-Go-Round will have the answer |
