Woo
Lae Oak (Vienna, VA – Arlington, VA)
A sign of the changes taking place in Northern Virginia: traditional
American steakhouse replaced by authentic Korean restaurant. Woo
Lae Oak is now in the former space of the beloved Sam & Harry’s
on Route 7 in the Tyson’s Corner area. This version has incorporated
a more modern and westernized style to its décor and menu
than its counterpart in Pentagon City.
All of the most popular Korean dishes are here: Korean Barbeque,
Hot Pot and the more traditional dishes such as Jap Chae (clear
cellophane noodles with mixed vegetables) and Nang Myun (cold noodle
soup). Western options like sandwiches and salads cater to less
adventurous patrons. Although the price is higher than most Korean
restaurants in the area, the sophisticated atmosphere of this well-regarded
restaurant caters t o business lunch-goers and their clients.
Meiwah (Dupont & Chevy Chase, Washington DC)
Meiwah is deservedly popular for a chic business dining experience
that only gently massages your expense account. The combination
of slate tiles, wrap around windows, high ceilings and generous
dining areas makes a perfect place to talk business or entertain
clients. A private dining room set off by large glass doors can
be used for private parties. There’s also an outside garden
roof for more casual summer dining. Food-wise you’ll find
a traditional Chinese restaurant that adds a dash of western flavor.
Signature dishes include: Fried Jumbo Shrimp with Butter, Twice
Cooked Duck, and Pan-Fried String Bean Szechuan Style. Mei Wah’s
mainstream approach to its cuisine has made it one of the more
popular Chinese restaurants in the DC area.
